Employee Evaluation Process

UPG prioritizes growth and development of our employees by conducting comprehensive evaluation three times a year. This process is designed to assess both employee performance and personal growth, and to support decisions regarding promotions, bonuses, other key aspects of career progression.

To ensure comprehensive assessments at all levels of the organization, the evaluation is conducted as follows:

  1. Departmental-Level Evaluation: The department heads assess the performance of employees in their respective departments.
  2. Management-Level Evaluation: The Executive Directors assess the performance of the department heads in their respective departments.
  3. Record Keeping: The resultant scores are recorded in the personnel records of each employee.
  4. Outcome Analysis: The Executive Directors analyze these scores to support decisions regarding regular promotion examinations, interim promotions, bonus calculation, and the assessment of training needs.

Occupational Health and Safety

Occupational health and safety are fundamental commitments of Our Mission, Company Policy, Core Values, Code of Conduct, and CSR commitments. UPG P&C operates under an Integrated Management System (IMS) that incorporated the ISO 45001:2018 Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS). Since adopting ISO 18001:2007 Occupational Health and Safety Assess Series (OHSAS) in 2008, the company has been consistently enhancing its OHS performance by analyzing, setting, implementing, and evaluating annual environmental objectives and targets. In 2018, UPG P&C received the ASEAN OSHNET Excellence Award 2018, for its outstanding occupational health and safety performance.

Loss Time Injury (LTI) Free Days

A Loss Time Injury (LTI) refers to any work-related injury or illness that prevents an employee from performing their regular duties and requires taking time off from work.

At UPG, since obtaining certification for the ISO 18001:2007 Occupational Health and Safety Assess Series (OHSAS) and implementing its practice on August 21, 2008, we have displayed the Loss Time Injury (LTI) Board at the main gate of our factory.

As of July 29, 2024, our LTI Board indicated that we have achieved 2,869 days since the last Loss Time Injury, reflecting our commitment to occupational health and safety.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

UPG provides a range of personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety boots, safety shoes, protective gloves, face masks, goggles, helmets, respirators, aprons, lab coats, safety belts, reflective vests, to all personnel who are required to wear PPF for their respective work areas. The IMS Steering Committee conducts regular and random inspections to ensure the proper use and maintenance of PPE in accordance with the procedures and work instructions of the ISO 45001:2018 Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS).

Noise Protection

UPG has established a maximum permissible noise level 90 decibels (dB) for all work areas. In areas where the noise level reaches or exceeds 80 dB, personnel are required to wear hearing protection devices, such as ear muffs or ear plugs. Additionally, personnel working in high-noise areas are periodically rotated to minimize exposure, in accordance with a rotation schedule.

In 2015, UPG installed a noise control system specifically for the Power Transfer Area, where the noise generated by air blowers was identified as a significant concern. Noise levels in all work areas are continuously monitored in accordance with the Noise-Level Monitoring Schedule to ensure compliance with safety standards and protect the hearing of the employees.

Temperature and Ventilation Control

In office areas, to reduce the affects of ambient temperature increases, UPG has installed energy-efficient air conditioning systems, including single-use type, multi cassette type, and PE Duct Type air-conditioners.

In production areas and warehouses, UPG has implemented various measures to manage temperature and improve ventilation, including industrial exhaust fans, air-purifying fans with filters, louvered shutters, and operable windows.

During hot summer periods, to reduce heat in the factory, the building roofs are cooled using overhead sprinkler systems. The sprinkler systems are designed to optimize water usage for efficient cooling.

Canteen Facility

UPG has established a spacious and hygienic canteen on the rooftop of the factory-office building. The canteen provides complimentary meals to all factory employees, and free meals and snacks are also offered to employees working overtime. Regular pest control measures are implemented to maintain a clean and safe environment in the canteen.

Factory and Head Office Clinics and Health Advisory Services

UPG has established medical clinics at both the factory and head office to provide healthcare services to employees. These clinics offer free medial consultations and treatment for illness and injuries. Medications and pharmaceuticals are provided freely to employees. All employees have access to health advice and consultations with qualified medical professionals.

First-Aid Facilities

All work areas at the UPG factory and head office are equipped with first-aid kits. Designated employees received training as certified First-Aiders, and First-Aid Teams are organized  under the oversight of the IMS Steering Committee. For emergency situations, the names, contact numbers, and the photos of the First-Aiders are clearly displayed on notice boards.
