UPG, the leading paint manufacturer in Myanmar, was born out of the market in 1995. Since necessity creates innovation, a group of united entrepreneurs collectively and creatively founded the company to develop full-scale paint industry in Myanmar. The initial key purposes of the company were to satisfy the growing demand of 1990s construction boom and to become one of the key contributors to the import substitution economy of Myanmar. The founding members named the company as United Paints Group Co., Ltd.
Entrepreneurs in Harmony
In 1996, UPG started to produce an affordable interior emulsion named ‘Unitex’ that is now the best budget paint in Myanmar. As the company continues to expand its product brands, Myanmar’s all-time- favorite paints of mid-end ‘Orient’ and high-end ‘Premier’ brand families were also manufactured, as two of the most popular brands of the product portfolio.
Since the company establishment, UPG has been rapidly growing in terms of market share and production capacity. The company was primarily focusing on learning, technology and marketing. The major driving force behind the scenes was a set of different entrepreneurships in harmony.
Responsible Market Leader
UPG is now leading Myanmar paint industry, practicing three ISO management systems and being a member of UN Global Compact,. The company manufactures and distributes a full range of paint products from budget household paint to high performance industrial coating, and everything in between. UPG is committed that the company’s major responsibilities are to protect the environment, enhance the company’s occupational health & safety, and support the local communities through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs. In 2018, UPG was transformed into holding structure and the paint manufacturing business was completely handed over to newly established subsidiary named UPG Paint & Coating Co., Ltd. In 2019, UPG achieved ‘ASEAN Outstanding Engineering Achievement Award 2018’ and ‘ASEAN-OSHNET Excellence Award 2018’ for its two leading-edge products and the effective management of occupational safety & health.
By carrying the legacy of the founding company, UPG Paint & Coating Co., Ltd. (i.e., UPG P&C) strives to build itself as a responsible market leader and has been implementing the company’s policy commitments to sustainability and the business.
